What is a National Park?

A national park is a territory in which the conservation of fauna and flora, but also the soil, subsoil, atmosphere and water is important because it creates a special interest. A national park must be protected against any damage, and no artificial intervention that might alter the medium is not allowed.

In the protected area that is Port-Cros, many rare species make their home. for example one finds the leucophé gull, which is no longer endangered, the booted eagle, a rare migratory bird, the peregrine falcon or the Mediterranean shearwater

Other common species inhabit the island. You can cross the forest, to turn a corner, but in Port-Cros the largest community is in the air. Indeed, animals lying in greater numbers on the island are migratory birds who stay from spring to fall, like other birds such as the kestrel, or the shag.

Marine fauna of Port-Cros is extremely rich. Snorkeling in the waters of the island is a real feast for the eyes. Beautiful underwater scenery, and not need to go in depth of 40m to discover beautiful fish.

With a canister or snorkel, you can swim in a school of fish, observe an octopus, grouper, emblematic of the Mediterranean, for the more adventurous, observed a moray or if you have a good view, you can search a scorpion, but be careful not to touch her.

Protect and develop

Protect space is monitored, and establish rules so that everyone beware.

In Port-Cros, there are some restrictions, such as in vehicles, for example, or strict rules regarding fire prevention. To protect an area such as Port-Cros, we must appeal to scientists identify species living there and be able to preserve them.
